Eighteen-year-old Paul Hamon lies on his bed in his Pooraka bedroom around March 1991, tongue out and looking the worse for wear. This was the first time he had been drunk: he had received a bottle of red wine as a birthday gift, consumed the whole bottle in his room out of curiosity, then became sick and was discovered wandering the hallway by his mother Desrae, who put him to bed. His father Howard took the photograph specifically so he could show it to Paul at a later date. Paul did not drink alcohol again until his 21st birthday. Stereo system, cassette tapes and papers are visible on the shelves behind the bed. Photograph by Howard Hamon. The restored version has been cleaned, colour-corrected and upscaled with generative AI while preserving the original expression and room details.
